A lovely, original and creative read. My 11 year old son really enjoyed this book. He says it was fun to read as it wasn’t too complicated but had enough story line to make it interesting. He said it was funny and the characters were good because there was only one bad character which was nice as he doesnt like baddies much. He liked that it was simple and clear so he could read and understand the story by himself.
He also like the made up creature and plants, he said they were funny too.

As a parent it was lovely to see my son finally reading independently. This book is great for building confidence in independent reading !

  2. Rebecca Knowles

    A lovely children’s book.
All 3 of our children ages 8,7 & 3 years, loved this story!! They were so fascinated by the magical characters! It has a happy ending, but some ‘scary’ moments to get there!! It was well written, and very engaging. The children can’t wait till the next one comes out so they can find out about that Goblin!! Exciting!! We will be recommending this book to our friends

Weston super Mare based children’s entertainer, Ade Bowen, has launched into the publishing world with this fun little story about the laziest man in the world.

In true Mr Men style, Bowen tells us that Mr Bowns is “Really really, really lazy”, yet has a great imagination and entertains the two children who tidy his house with magical stories. Somehow our lazy hero finds it in himself to get out of bed one day and accompany the children on a walk, but, unfortunatly they end up captured by a witch. Mr Bowns has to overcame his indolence to rescue them.

This is a simple, enjoyable tale about friendship, written in a straightforward way which makes it splendidly accessible to young readers.

Fantastic book. Started reading it to my boys 8 and 9 yr old boys at bedtime. Read 3 or 4 chapters and then it was bed time. My eldest cheeky monkey couldn’t wait and stayed up reading it to the end!!

The youngest struggles with reading a bit but we happily read the rest of the book together. Taking it in turns to do different voices.

Great to read to them and easy enough for them to read to themselves.

    “The book is great, I love how there is sooooo much friendship! I also like this song;
With friends like these, with friends like these, when you get in trouble…..
I liked reading about a crocopoo, a cross between a poodle and a crocodile!

    It is a great book”

Review from a 10 year old boy

“It was amazing. I liked how it had humour mixed with suspense. The ending was very dramatic.
I think anyone with a good sense of humour or a mythical imagination will enjoy this book.”

I bought this book directly from the author at a chance meeting. My son read it that evening.

What a joy of a book! Have been reading it to my Grandson who loves it and has me reading it over and over again. Just love hearing him laugh out loud at it. I have to say that I enjoyed it too as it does have an old fashioned feel to it, reminiscent if books I read as a child. Definitely recommend…..looking forward to the next one!

  30. Jennifer

This is a great kids story with plenty going on to keep the little ones, and adults, entertained. Look forward to seeing more by this author.

  31. Rainy Knight

What a delightful book! I’m not much of a reader myself, but need to encourage my little ‘un. He was chuckling throughout and it kept my attention too. Great book!

  32. Ruth Sindall

Great book, has all the ingredients to encourage early readers as well as making a good bedtime read. Fantastic fun characters. Highly recommended!

  33. Julia Coles

Great short(ish) story for younger children. Has all the well known characters – witches, small children, strange lazy neighbours, cottages, brooms that talk and a happy ending. What more do you need.

  34. Danby Wiske

Reading this book took me back to my own childhood and “Chimney Corner Stories” by Enid Blyton. It has the feel of her style of writing and the gentleness of an age of innocence. Younger children will love having it read to them, with all of the voices. Older children reading it for themselves will love Mr Bowns – a man too lazy even to poo!! Nice drawings too: nice to see an author illustrating his own work. Well done Mr Bowen!
