Description
Drawing on experiences lived before a landmark birthday, Nearly 30 is Joe Woodhouse’s exciting debut poetry collection. The digital revolution and the way it has fundamentally changed human existence; modern love, relationships and sex; the lasting effects of religion on society and the inescapable effects of ageing are all given moments in this structurally varied collection of poems from a striking new voice on the British poetry scene.

I happened upon Joe Woodhouse and “Nearly 30: 29 poems on turning 30 (Wordcatcher Modern Poetry)” via a search for haiku and found myself pleasantly entertained by all of the poetic variety; even those outside of Haiku. This collection is a clever snapshot of everyday life infusing humor and satire; and perhaps, a little evocative. There’s clearly a “regional voice” and “foreign readers” should appreciate the journey. For all of these reasons, this work receives my positive endorsement.
