1 review for Earth, Sea and Sky

  1. Jerry Lyons

Poet Lionel Fanthorpe hits the target again and again with this one. For sure variety is the spice of life and that’s surely the mainstay of this book. So his collection will come as a joy to those who are fond of their poetry and for those that might delve in when they get around to it. Like Lear’s work does some of these poems will make you laugh out loud, some will stop you in your tracks as their depth rivals Poe’s. Others are the poetic equivalent of cinema noir such is the poet’s downright refusal to view the world unswervingly through rose-tinted spectacles. While other poems are out-and-out literary slapstick. There’re even berths set aside for a salty shanty or three. A book here which robustly lives up to the all-round excellence expected of it.
