What an awesome book. Who would have thought you can talk about your experience as a sex worker, mix that with feminism, tell men that consent is not sexy but mandatory, smash the patriarchy, raise awareness of mental health issues, refer to there being no ethical consumption under capitalism and make the reader feel this way in 152 pages? A woman should not need validation from others to be successful and so my next sentence is to readers of my review as a recommendation for reading the book, not to the author by way of critiquing her art. Dee Dickens has an amazing talent for writing in a raw, honest, challenging, fulfilling and funny way that really engaged me as a reader. This is why I am recommending you read her book.

  2. Kindle Customer

Stella pursues her work with good humour, saves some men and politically educates others. And Dee’s real Great Aunt Stella is my new heroine.

  3. Miss Bagshaw

Had me in absolute stitches, but also moved me and revolted me. Human sexuality is a hell of a thing.

  4. Karen Smith

This is hysterically funny, reading this late at night I found I actually had to cover my mouth so I didn’t wake up people in the rest of the house, I was laughing so hard! A very entertaining and interesting read. I didn’t agree with all her opinions, although I did agree with many of them, but that didn’t detract from the book. You have to read this book! Laughs are guaranteed.

  5. Kate Harr

Extremely well written, funny and intelligent. This writer manages to make us laugh and think at the same time. Its a crazy journey through the world of phone sex work, told in an intelligent and political way. I read this in one sitting, and loved it The book is well structured, engaging, and thoughtful. It would make an ideal Christmas present – for the more open minded people in your life!

  6. Richard Jones

A shift (or dozen) in the life of a telephone sex worker, and let’s face it there are worse jobs to do by phone (cold calling to get people to change energy supplier jumps immediately to mind)… Dee takes us by the hand (not in the slightest sticky, I mean would you fap for real for 12p/min or fake it like everyone else?) from how to start to where she ends this chapter of her life.

Whatever your personal and private kink, she’ll have come across it on the lines (no, that one is all in your mind) and boy, what odd creatures heterosexual men can be…!

Thank you for sharing this glimpse Dee, I await the next chapters in the days of your lives (yours and those of the Stella’s)

Great read, page turner, well worth buying

  7. Fiona Fairless

This had me reeling from tears of laughter to tears of joy with a smattering of fury along the way. Dee Dickens has a way of writing that reaches right into your heart and warms you from within. If you have trouble sleeping don’t read this at night because you literally won’t be able to put it down. Fantastic.
