6. Raising awareness and promoting the Sustainable Development Goals among suppliers

The sixth commitment we have made is a pledge to raise awareness of and promote the Sustainable Development Goals among our suppliers.

In the coming year we will continue existing conversations with our suppliers about sustainability issues. While the obvious suppliers are the printers we use to print books, sustainability should run through every business. We intend to ask our suppliers about their sustainability plans, and this will continue to form a part of our decision-making when choosing where to place our business.

We can draw attention to the UN sustainability objectives to our suppliers and, perhaps, they might also sign up and pledge their commitment to them. If they, in turn reach out to their customers, suppliers and staff this awareness spreads further. We deal with companies large and small – who knows the impact spreading the word might have? This isn’t about saying how great we are in wanting greater sustainability and equality, but in effecting change.
