This is the fourth in our 12 Days of Christmas series of posts detailing how Wordcatcher Publishing Group Ltd plans to meet the ten commitments it signed up to as a signatory to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals Publishers Compact.
4. Nominating a person who will promote Sustainable Development Goal progress
The fourth commitment we have made is a pledge to nominate a coordinator who will monitor and promote our progress towards meeting the Sustainable Development Goals.
In a small business such as ours, this is an easy commitment to make as there aren;t many people to choose from. But these responsibilities still have implications. It takes time to review and monitor SDG activities and this is time not spent on tasks more directly focussed on publishing books. In a small business, this ‘simple’ time commitment has more impact than in a larger organisation. To manage this effectively, alongside all of the varied functions of running a small business, requires focus on achieving important outcomes, not ticking boxes for the sake of it.
In case you missed it, here is yesterday’s post about out how we are implementing annual reporting on our progress towards meeting the Sustainable Development Goals.
